The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is an international organization that provides support services to those in need, with a focus on food and essentials. The Halifax Particular Council (HPC) coordinates the work of 16 conferences, operating two Special Works: Hope Cottage, which serves free meals, and Hand in Hand, a thrift store providing low-cost goods. In 2023, HPC assisted 3,992 households, served 29,000 people at their Soup Kitchen, and had 310 volunteers.
