Aro Valley Preschool is a parent-run co-operative that caters for children from two to five years of age. The preschool offers up to 20 hours free education for three and four year olds, and follows the national early childhood curriculum – Te Whariki. They celebrate each child's cultural background and work to give them a sense of their cultural identity as New Zealanders. Children learn in Te Reo (Maori), NZ sign language, and English, and participate in activities that support and extend their interests. Families contribute to the operation of the preschool and make decisions about its overall philosophy, policies, and direction.
